Dave Mudd, football commissioner of the Nampa Optimist Club football program,
left, accepts a check for $500 from Dawn Vezzoso, community involvement
coordinator for the Nampa Wal-Mart, as Mudd's son, Dylan looks on. The
10-year-old Dylan is a participant in the service club's gridiron program. Nampa
Optimist Football Committee spokesman Kenny Wroten said the money will be used
to continue improvements at Optimist Park. The park's seven fields are ready for
play, and the Optimists will hold a kickoff with all the teams on Wednesday,
Sept. 4. Games start Sept. 7. About 400 kids between ages 7 and 12 have signed
up to play football and more than 65 have signed up to be cheerleaders.
